It comes down to what the cameras are for: Wyze is made for homes, and Protect for a business.
Choose UniFi Protect if
- You’d rather not pay every monthBuy the cameras once, with no cloud subscription, and still watch them from anywhere.
- You need footage kept longerYou choose how long footage is kept, from days to years, where Wyze’s cloud keeps 14 to 60.
- Each view needs the right cameraProtect has turret, dome, 360-degree and PTZ cameras, each built for a different job.
- The cameras must ride out an outageCameras run over their network cables, so on battery backup they keep recording, and some models can record in the camera itself.
- The cameras are for a businessProtect is made for business use, and Wyze’s terms rule it out without written permission.

- You want the lowest price up frontWyze cameras cost less to buy, which matters most when you only need a camera or two.
Common questions
Wyze’s terms say its cameras are for personal and household use, and not for a business, workplace or public setting unless Wyze authorizes it in writing. Protect is built for business use.
Recording and viewing carry no subscription and no per-camera license, because the footage is stored on equipment you own. Our support plan, which comes with every business system, is billed on its own.
As long as you choose, from days to years. The recorder takes up to 1 PB of RAID storage, sized for your cameras and how far back you need to look.
We install UniFi Protect. We do not install or support store-bought cameras.
Yes. We replace the Wyze cameras with Protect cameras and a recorder, since Wyze cameras run on Wyze’s own app and cloud.
Yes. The cameras record to the recorder in your building whether or not the internet is up. Only viewing from away needs the internet.
Usually. Protect hardware costs more up front, but recording, smart alerts and AI search carry no subscription, where Wyze charges every month for them.
